Molecular Systematics and Phylogeography. Students with interests in particular groups of organsims often undertake molecular systematic projects in my lab. Although we routinely analyze mitochondrial DNA sequence variation, we recognize that "single gene trees" are not reliable and so we are also use multilocus nuclear DNA sequence markers. Joel Stake is developing new markers for Carribbean corals (Porites and Agaricia), and Brian Mahon is working with brachyuran crabs.
